Today, Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie highlighted the opportunities offered by new technologies and digitalization "in terms of inclusion and equality policies, which help improve connectivity among our citizens", in his address at a forum titled "Digital Inclusion for Development in the Americas", organized by the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States (OAS), alongside the Argentine Ministry of Modernization.
"Nowadays, digital inclusion is essential to create equality and is one of the most important aspects of the economic development of societies; in this regard, Argentina has been taking important steps in terms of infrastructure and connectivity", Minister Faurie stated, adding that those issues will be at the forefront of the G20 Leaders' Summit to be held in Buenos Aires.
The Foreign Minister noted that, in today's world, issues such as education, gender equality, employment and industry "are closely related to Internet access and digital technology, and are included as goals in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development".
In this regard, the Minister stated that "infrastructure development is vital for Internet access, in order to make progress in terms of quality and equality of access."
During the forum, held at the Emperador Hotel, Minister Faurie shared a panel with the Minister of Modernization, Andrés Ibarra, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Malcolm Johnson, following the participation of the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, through a video message.
